Minimalist Packing: Travel Light, Go Further
Light luggage is not an aesthetic — it's a travel advantage. How to cut weight without running out of things.
The 5-4-3-2-1 rule
- 5 sets of underwear and socks, 4 tops, 3 bottoms, 2 pairs of shoes (one worn), 1 jacket.
- It sounds tight. It is — and it's almost always enough for a week with a mid-trip laundry stop.
Launder, don't carry
One hotel sink wash or one laundromat visit replaces three days of packed clothing. A small sink-stop and a dry bag for wet items are all you need.
Multi-use everything
Shoes you can walk in and dine in. A scarf that becomes a blanket on cold planes. One soap that covers body, hair and laundry in a pinch.
Digital weight counts too
One charger, one cable standard (USB-C), one power bank. The tangle of single-use adapters is heavier than it looks and twice as annoying.
The freedom you're actually packing for
Light bags change how you move: stairs don't matter, transfers are faster, and you can walk that extra kilometre to the good restaurant. That's the point of the exercise.
